You just got some news that you semi expected but honestly weren’t ready for and were in a bit of denial about. So unlike you to look into what it could mean but this may have been your best step! You will move forward with grace and treat him as a kid first and his diagnosis is just something to contend with in a somewhat secondary capacity wherever you can.
The thing you need to know, I’m 4 years into this wonderful “journey” that is mothering that beautiful boy you see before you and I can tell you it’s so bloody wonderful! He is so bloody wonderful! He will amaze you with everything he does! You’ll have days where you wonder if he’ll hit that milestone - he will and it will be magical!
You won’t see coming the way he grows in what seems like a second when he meets his baby brother. You’ll certainly be amazed at how going Kinder will open him up and grow him even more.
You’ll be in awe of all he goes through and makes it through like nothing ever happened. The day he says your name will melt you cause teaching him to fist bump was great but using your name is the absolute best. He will then equally drive you crazy how often he will also choose to giggle at you or say something else instead! The cheekiness is in built.
Speaking of that giggle it’s brilliant! It’s one of the best noises! You thought his heartbeat made your heart sing but that giggle it’s just as wonderful! His love knows no bounds and he loves his friends and family without comparison. He will bring you new wonderful friends that support you.
People will look at you and tell you regularly how strong you are and how in awe they are of what you are doing with/for Sam, you thank them but feel you are no different to any other Mum doing all that you can do for your little human like they are, just your experiences might look a little different at times and the best way to get through this is to roll with it.
His crazy little personality is the best! He picks up dance moves so quick and will dance to everything even an alarm! He is the coolest little groover! He sings in sign to his brother, and it is fabulous! He is funny, sweet, cute, stubborn, loving, and brilliant! (Just a few words to describe him). One of the best days will be when you turn up to Kinder and from inside the classroom you’ll hear “Sam’s here!” those kids are so excited to see him! You will know in that moment it is all ok!
His tears will break your heart, but his cuddle will heal you both! And 100% the best thing you ever encourage is the “pat pat pat” on the shoulder when he hugs people it is so soothing! He is so fabulous!
The biggest thing you need to know from future me is: You’ve so got this! You are doing great!
